Boston College political scientist Peter Skerry once commented about the Statue of Liberty, noting that the original purpose of the gift from France to the United States was one to emphasize expanding liberty. “The notion of the United States as a refuge or a goal for migrants wasn’t part of what the French liberals had in mind at all,” he commented. America had liberty, but elsewhere in the world liberty was needed.
Early on, this seems to be true as the grand lady was seen as the guardian of a sacred portal who would drive away all who wasted the gift of freedom and liberty. Immigration was to be given to those who cherished freedom and understood that through freedom, and hard work, one would control one’s destiny.
It wasn’t until 1939 that Emma Lazarus penned the sonnet that begins, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.” No more noble a sentence could have been crafted to change the demeanor of a symbol created to spread liberty across other nations; into one which now endures its folly.
The Democrat Elites have reached beyond our borders with the false promise of easy living, automatic payments, and freedom to do as you wish without adhering to the American culture. All one needs is to steal into our country.
They come en masse looking for a handout, to be taken care of, to live off the government until the government can no longer pay. Yet, we cannot blame them. It is not their fault that our government funds organizations who puts these ideas into illegal immigrants’ heads and sends them on the treacherous trek across our border. It is that journey where, particularly for women and children, the price of freedom exacts a toll. The cost of liberty and freedom for them often is paid in sex trafficking, child sex trafficking, drug mules, and eventually for some, death. Congress heard testimony about eighty-five thousand missing children, but all know it is more.
The austere appearance of our greatest statue is not welcoming. Not warm. Not soft. Not beckoning. Not one of friendship. It is one of severity. It is one which is stern and discerning. It is a protector of liberty, not immigration. It rejects the industry of sexual slavery, pedophilia, and exploitation at our border. All conjured by the Democrat Elite when citing their revised intent of that great monument to the rest of the world.
The Democrat Elite abuse one of the most iconic symbols on the face of the earth. The abuse ends when we close the border. Until then, she stands for nothing.
